John Galsworthy était un romancier et dramaturge anglais réputé, né le 14 août 1867 à Kingston upon Thames, dans le Surrey. Il est né à Galsworthy House, qui s'appelait Parkhurst à l'époque. Galsworthy est issu d'une famille bien établie et prospère qui possédait de vastes propriétés.
La carrière littéraire de Galsworthy s'est étendue des époques victorienne, édouardienne et géorgienne, et il a utilisé le pseudonyme John Sinjohn. Outre son statut littéraire prolifique, Galsworthy a également été un défenseur social dévoué. Il a été un partisan vocal du mouvement des suffragettes des femmes, de la réforme carcérale et des droits des animaux. Galsworthy a occupé le poste de président de PEN, une organisation qui visait à promouvoir la coopération internationale grâce à la littérature.
En 1932, Galsworthy s'est vu décerner le prix Nobel de littérature "pour son art narratif distingué, qui atteint sa forme la plus élevée dans La Saga des Forsyte". Ses contributions littéraires étaient significatives et ses œuvres restent pertinentes à ce jour. L'aptitude de Galsworthy à tisser des récits captivants et son engagement en faveur de l'activisme social en font une figure notable dans la littérature anglaise.
