Barbara Keiler, également connue sous les noms de plume Ariel Berk, Thea Frederick et Judith Arnold, est née le 7 avril et a commencé à raconter des histoires avant même de savoir écrire. Elle avait 4 ans lorsque sa sœur, Carolyn, lui a appris l'alphabet, et elle écrit depuis lors. Keiler est diplômée du Smith College et a obtenu une maîtrise en création littéraire de l'université Brown. Elle est mariée à un étudiant diplômé en chimie qu'elle a rencontré à Brown, et ils ont deux fils adolescents et un cochon d'Inde nommé Wilbur.
Keiler a reçu des bourses d'écriture de la Fondation Shubert et du National Endowment for the Arts. Elle a également enseigné dans plusieurs collèges et universités à travers le pays et a écrit plusieurs pièces de théâtre qui ont été jouées dans des théâtres régionaux à San Francisco, Washington D.C., Connecticut et off-off-Broadway. Elle a commencé sa carrière d'écrivain en 1983 sous le nom de Ariel Berk et a depuis écrit plus de 70 romans sous divers noms, avec huit millions d'exemplaires imprimés dans le monde entier. Elle a également signé un contrat avec MIRA Books, avec son premier roman publié en 2001. Keiler a reçu plusieurs prix de Romantic Times Magazine, dont pour le Meilleur Harlequin American Romance de l'année, le Meilleur Harlequin Superromance de l'année, le Meilleur Roman Romantique de série de l'année, et un Certificat de Mérite pour l'Innovation en Romance Series. Elle a également été finaliste pour le Golden Medallion Award et le RITA Award pour Romance Writer of America.
Le roman de Keiler "Barefoot in the Grass" figure sur les listes de lecture recommandées distribuées par les services de soutien contre le cancer de plusieurs hôpitaux. Elle est une auteure bestseller USA Today et a reçu quatre prix de RT Book Reviews Magazine pour le Meilleur Harlequin American Romance, le Meilleur Harlequin Superromance, le Meilleur Roman Romantique de série et le Meilleur Roman Contemporain.
