Terry Pratchett était un auteur anglais acclamé, principalement connu pour sa série de fantasy humoristique Discworld. Il est né Terrence David John Pratchett à Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire, en Angleterre, le 28 avril 1948. Pratchett était enfant unique et a développé son amour pour la lecture et l'écriture à un jeune âge. Il a passé la majeure partie de son enfance dans la bibliothèque de Beaconsfield et a vendu sa première histoire à l'âge de 13 ans, ce qui lui a rapporté assez d'argent pour acheter une machine à écrire d'occasion.
La carrière d'écrivain professionnel de Pratchett a commencé en 1971 avec la publication de son premier roman, une fantasy humoristique intitulée 'The Carpet People'. Il a travaillé pendant de nombreuses années comme journaliste et attaché de presse, écrivant dans son temps libre et publiant plusieurs romans, dont son premier roman Discworld, 'The Color of Magic', en 1983. En 1987, il se consacre entièrement à l'écriture et publie plus de 40 livres dans la série Discworld, dont quatre sont destinés aux enfants. Ses livres pour enfants, dont 'The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents', ont remporté plusieurs prix, dont la Médaille Carnegie.
Le travail de Pratchett a reçu une reconnaissance et une reconnaissance internationales. Il a remporté de nombreux prix littéraires et a été nommé Officier de l'Empire britannique (OBE) pour ses services à la littérature.
